Of course I’m doing Blazing Laptops, an all day writing marathon to raise money for San Diego Writers, Ink, but there are other reasons too. I like to write in community. It keeps me in my seat and helps me go past the words when I want to stop. Another reason is that I have a year’s worth of daily writing practice pages in my journals with lots of words that I haven’t even typed up yet. These are poem drafts, personal essays and scene kernels from my next novel all itching to be pulled out and paid attention to. It will be fabulous to have a whole day to get caught up. But the most important reason is because it’s a lot of fun! I get a buzz from eating lots of M&Ms and seeing all those other fingers putting words in their journals or typing on their keyboards. June 9th will be a great day and I’m really looking forward to it.
