Icy Morning

As the sun rises
frost crystals
shimmer
like holiday
twinkle lights.
Soon the sky
turns brilliant
blue, but with
a cold brisk air.
Cuyamaca Peak
is covered in
snow that will
melt unless
the brewing
storm brings
more. Company
is coming so
I toss cowhides
across the slippery
path to our door,
a welcome mat
for our beloved
precious guests.
