Meteor Show Poem

Perseid Night Sky

Middle of meadow
inside sleeping bag,
I gaze at Milky Way
glittering sequins
above. A meteor
shower is due and so
I watch and wait for
falling stars to bless
me with passionate
streaks of luscious light.

Time floats by, dew gathers,
I want to slumber
but suddenly I point
and shout, There’s one!
The sky pauses.
There’s another!
And another!

Diamonds continue
to cascade on blue velvet,
breathtakingly beautiful.
Worth much more than
staying awake for.

  1. Thanks Jill for this lovely poem. One of these August nights I will place myself somewhere, face upped to the sky and watch for meteors to bless me, too. xoox

  2. Absolutely beautiful poem Jill! I’m headed to Colorado in a few weeks and will look for the fields of stars from our mountain retreat. Thanks so much for sharing!

  3. Oh my goodness – I love this poem. What a lovely tribute to the night sky and the beautiful meteors that streak across it.

Beautiful photo too – did you take it?

    1. Emily, I didn’t take the photo. I’m sure a special camera was used. I-phones are amazing but probably wouldn’t work on the night sky. I’ll try it next time! lol

  4. Jill, having just returned from high desert in Southern Oregon and the wonder of a fattening moon and more stars than could fill my eyes, I felt welcomed back with your poem. Thanks you so much. Dian
