I have ruined more garments by entering my studio unawares. Once after a fundraising gala I stepped inside to peek at a table I had started to mosaic. I just couldn’t resist, in heels and a favorite fancy dress I began to manipulate and glue down pieces. Adhesive dripped across the front of my gown and it was ruined. Another time I splattered paint onto a new pair of sandals. Now I have a drawer full of old grungy clothes to wear only in the studio. I get into the zone faster and create better when I’m not concerned about how I look or that I might spill something on myself. I always try to abide by my own dress code.
My Studio Dress Code
- The messier & more comfortable the better. (ex. baggy sweats and sneakers.)
- Husband’s old shirt, defunct salon smock or an apron that I can wipe my hands on.
- No bra or makeup, of course!
- Never brush hair before entering. Pull up into a poof as quick as possible with a scrunchie or back with a headband.
- Please do brush teeth.
WHAT DO YOU WEAR IN YOUR STUDIO OR WHEN YOU CREATE?
Love it! Unselfconscious creative flow happening at your place for sure! …and all done with good dental hygiene!!! Yay!
pajama bottoms with a tee shirt; yoga clothes; naked, once, just to see if I wrote any differently. (I did)
