I’ve attended over twenty-two book events since The Silver Shoes came out last June. It’s been fulfilling to meet with readers and speak about my books. And I’m grateful to the independent bookstores, libraries and private homes that have hosted me. It’s also been exciting to receive some positive accolades. I continue to enjoy facilitating workshops at San Diego Writers, Ink too.
Here are some hi-lights:
I was pleased to give my very first power point presentation at the Women’s Museum of California, “How Photographs Have Inspired My Writing.”
The Silver Shoes was displayed at the San Diego Central Library for the Local Author Showcase. Check out the photo of me celebrating at the reception.
The novel was selected by none other than Reese Witherspoon for the PopSugar Book Club Challenge as “A Novel to Read with an Item of Clothing on the Cover.”
It has also been named the 2018 Distinguished Historical Fiction Favorite in the New York City Big Book Awards. This is perfect because most of the novel is set in The Big Apple.
Thank you for reading my blog and books. And a special thank you to my super fans who have written reviews. Each one helps a book go higher in those mysterious algorithms. If you’ve enjoyed a book the best way to thank an author is to post a review on Amazon, Goodreads or even BookBub.
Follow my FB author page to see the fun 1920s flapper and burlesque dancer photos I’ve been sharing.
I sure hope you continue to read novels and be creative! It’s the only way to live! Don’t you agree?
Yes Jill. I am always reading. I go to a Mystery Buffs class where each class member chooses any book that has any type of mystery in it. We then are encouraged to write a short summary and give an oral report. The instructor is 80 and has taught this class for over 30 years.
One of my creative outlets for the last 2 years has been watercolor painting. I’ve studied with 2 artists. It’s very hard work to create something that looks like it was effortless and takes a lot of patience and suspension of self criticism. Much of the enjoyment is in the creation rather than the finished product.
Barb, How wonderful that you are following a fulfilling path. Your mystery class sounds like fun. I’m glad you are doing watercolor. I agree creativity is about process rather than product. I hope to see you at another book event soon!
I loved your workshop at SDWI, Writing with Visual Prompts. I learned so much from you and the others that day. The collage I made in the workshop hangs above my desk, I look up at it for inspiration when needed. Thanks Jill
Michael, I loved having you in class and enjoy writing with you at Tuesday Brown Bag. Your stories are intriguing and make me laugh. Keep at it! Good luck.
Jill, How I have loved sharing some of The Silver Shoes events with you! You keep amazing me. Thank you.
Thank You Judy!!! If it wasn’t for you none of this would have happened.
