My poem was just published in The Weekly Avocet , A Nature Journal #195!
Deer
I saw six
this morning
as they crossed
the meadow
under the oaks
to browse on
fresh grass.
Pair of baby
bucks practiced
sparring, their
twig-like antlers,
twisted together
back & forth
like tango dancers.
Spotting me
mama doe
froze, circled
her family,
led them away
with a high
hop up the hill.

Congratulations Jill! I love your poem. I love deer too. They are so majestic.
Leslie, That is the perfect word! Majestic. Maybe I’ll use it in another poem.
Wonderful poem. Jill you captured the fleeting moment beautifully.
Mary, Thanks for reading the poem and for your comment!
Nice piece Jill. Calms the spirit.
Andy, That says a lot because your lively wild woman spirit is hard to calm!
It’s always such a wonderful surprise when the deer appear. Thanks for “capturing” a few in your poem.
Judy, It all happened so fast that I wasn’t able to take a photo. The only way to capture the sighting was in a poem.
Beautiful!
Lara, Thanks!
Very nice described a mamma dear and her 2 fawns I saw in my back yard just this week.
Edith, Thanks for reading my poem. I know you have a lot more deer in Michigan than we have here in California. Every time I see one my heart beats with joy!
